Middle School Education, ASE Degree Plan  

The Associate of Science in Education - Middle School Education (MSED) presents core knowledge of the education profession by combining content and pedagogical knowledge. Pre-candidates demonstrate a basic understanding of the teaching profession and student learning. The program emphasizes the uniqueness of each student, recognizing that children are best understood in the context of family, culture, society, and environment. The Associate of Science in Education prepares pre-candidates to work in schools as paraprofessionals or to continue to obtain their Bachelor’s in Middle School Education. To obtain an Associate of Science in Education - Middle School Education, the student must earn at least a grade point average of 2.70 on all University credits, and complete the required curriculum (major courses with a C or higher). Students earning an AS will complete 60-61 hours, depending on content concentration areas, that include the following requirements.

MATH 1023 - College Algebra  and PHYS 2003 - College Physics I /PHYS 2001 - College Physics I Lab  are recommended for math or science concentrations.

MATH 1053 - Mathematical Literacy  is recommended for language arts or social studies concentrations.

Coursework cannot be double counted for general education and a middle school content area.
