Political Science and Public Administration: 4+1 Combined Program, BA/MPA Degree Plan
A 4+1 program is available for students interested in earning a bachelor’s degree in History/Political Science: Political Science and a Master of Public Administration degree. By the end of the fourth year, students will complete 120 credit hours (108 undergraduate + 12 graduate) and receive their BA degree. They will complete an additional 24 graduate hours in their fifth year (including summers). After the completion of 144 hours (108 undergraduate + 36 graduate) students will also earn the MPA degree if all other graduate requirements are satisfied. Please meet with department chair Dr. Paul Babbitt during your sophomore year if interested.

Other Requirements (12 Hours)
- 3 hours of electives in geography
- 3 hours upper-level non-creative writing or PSCI 4353 Senior Paper Research (choice should be made in consultation with a faculty advisor)
- 6 hours of foreign language*
* May be fulfilled by freshman-level courses in the same language or a satisfactory score on a language proficiency exam. Three hours of foreign language may be double counted to meet the general education requirement.

Professional Project (3 Hours)
*All students are required to complete a professional project. This project is expected to incorporate the skills learned in the MPA program in a written product that is of use to a particular agency or organization. The student must receive prior approval in writing from the director of the MPA program before proceeding on the project. The student must be registered for PA 6113 during the term in which the project is completed. If a project is not completed during the term for which the student is enrolled, a grade of NC will be assigned. In order to complete the project the student must be enrolled for the credits during the term in which it will be completed. If the student is successful in completing the project a grade of CR will be assigned for the term during which the project was completed. However, any previous NC grades will not be changed and only the credits the student earned while enrolled in the semester that the project was completed will be awarded.
