MUS 2023 - Music and Culture of Africa and its Diaspora
This course explores the breadth and depth of music from the African continent and its diaspora, specifically North America. Students will be introduced to African music and culture with a focus on African folkloric, traditional, popular, and religious music. This knowledge will then be used to examine the evolution of North American music from the perspective of its African musical roots. Fall, spring.
