ENGL 3243 - The Theory and Practice of Writing


Prerequisites: Grade of B or higher in ENGL 1113  and ENGL 1123  and sophomore standing.
This course runs in conjunction with, and is a required component of, an appointment as a consultant in the SAU Writing Center. Students will learn the theories behind and the practices of writing centers, as well as the pedagogical and interpersonal skills necessary for working with student writers on a one-to-one level. They will write about their readings and their experiences as consultants, learn how to assess the writing skill and needs of writers in a variety of situations, and explore their own understanding of the writing process. Students will also discuss ways of accommodating diverse learning styles and needs, including those of disabled and ESL learners. Fall.
