ART 3543 - Figure Drawing Prerequisites: ART 1113 or instructor permission. The course is to study, understand, and experience through drawing and painting, the styles and impetus behind figurative art. The focus of this class will be on the structure, weight, and form of the body, its bone and muscular anatomy as well as how the human form has been and is being used as a means to an end in art. Part of the class will focus on periods of figurative change due to artists’ thoughts, motivations, and practices, and will investigate the various personal, social, political, sexual and cultural forces that promoted artists to rethink the human form. This course will deal with figurative genres, such as isolated and group figures, interior and exterior scenes, realism and abstraction - in both an objective and interpretive manner. This class is not intended to provide solutions; instead, it will offer options. Fall.
