MATH 1053 - Mathematical Literacy Prerequisites: ACT math subscore of 18 or higher, or Compass score of 36, or departmental approval. This course introduces various math topics to provide students with an approach to problem solving through mathematical logic and reasoning. The course will identify, analyze, generalize, communicate quantitative relationships, and introduce the fundamental notation and rules of a mathematical system as well as construct and interpret visual representations of mathematical relationships. Literacy topics include math quantitative analysis for students completing the general education program. MATH 0051 may be required as a corequsite course based on ACT math score and/or high school GPA, using criteria for college readiness based on SAU’s Multiple Measures Placement Plan, or an ACT score of 17 and below, or other placement with permission of the director of Transitional Studies. Fall, spring, summer.
