History/Political Science: Political Science and Public Administration, BA/MPA 4+1 Program Degree Plan   

A 4+1 program is available for students interested in earning a bachelor’s degree in history/political science: political science and a Master of Public Administration degree. By the end of the fourth year, students should complete 120 credit hours (108 undergraduate + 12 graduate) and receive their BA degree. They should complete an additional 24 graduate hours in their fifth year (including summers). After the completion of 144 hours (108 undergraduate + 36 graduate) they will be conferred the MPA degree if all other requirements are satisfied. Please meet with Dr. Paul Babbitt during your sophomore year if interested.

University Requirement (2 hours)


General Education (32 hours)


  

Note: 3 hours of fine arts/humanities requirements are included in the major. PSCI 2003 - American Government: National  cannot be used to fulfill the social science requirements.

Other Requirements (12 hours)


  • PSCI 4353 Senior Paper Research  or 3 hours of upper-level non-creative writing
  • 3 hours of Geography electives
  • 6 hours of Foreign Language (may be fulfilled by freshman-level courses in the same language or a satisfactory score on a language proficiency exam)

Electives (26 hours)


  • 26 hours of unrestricted electives

MPA Requirements (36 hours)


12 hours of graduate courses taken the senior year will also count toward the undergraduate degree requirements. Please see semesters 7 and 8 in the History/Political Science: Political Science and Public Administration, BA/MPA 4+1 Program Degree Plan  for more details.

Total Hours - 144 (108 undergraduate + 36 graduate)
