ETEC 3013 - Applied Thermal Science Prerequisites: PHYS 2003 and PHYS 2001 or PHYS 2203 and PHYS 2201 . Corequisites: ETEC 3012 . Energy balance of closed system and control volume, First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics, properties of pure substance, Carnot cycle, power cycles, the concepts and different modes of heat transfer including Fourier’s Law of Heat Conduction, Newton’s Law of Cooling, Stephan Boltzmann’s Law, etc will be covered in this course. Thermal resistance concepts including conduction, convection, and radiation, heat transfer through different types of fins, lumped system analysis, free and forced convection will be discussed in detail. Types and selections of different types of heat exchanges will also be covered in this course. Spring.
